Window Cleaning Requirement: Safety First
Window cleaning can be a dangerous occupation especially when the cleaners use a ladder to reach those upper storey windows. There are many instances of falls and accidents due to unsafe practices by many window cleaning companies. This blatant negligence can expose clients and their employees to undue liabilities as well as legal battles.
In the fierce competition for clients, many window cleaning companies resort to all kind of gimmicks and promising various kinds of services. Oftentimes, profit has replaced all the safety concerns.
To protect the window cleaners and their customers, a safety standard must be in place. Every company must be guided by an occupational or workplace health and safety system that is congruent to the government’s. A window cleaning company has even come up with a manual on making the workplace a safe environment. The manual is guided by the following Government Acts, such as, the Occupational Health and Safety Act 1985, First Aid in the Workplace, Regulation and the Code of Practice Manual Handling, and the Organising Health and Safety Training for the Workplace.
Before committing to a contract, the window cleaning company must go through the building or the homes to assess the safety requirements of the window cleaners. The report will then be provided to the clients as to the restrictions set by the WPH&S system. In this way, the clients will be guided that they could not just ask their cleaners to access places without any safety gadgets or measures.
Abiding by good safety standards can actually boost your marketability and increase your clients. Many customers will appreciate a company that puts the safety of persons first rather than focusing on making profits.
When it comes to safety, water fed poles are fast replacing the unstable ladders. These poles can extend up to 70 feet. You need not spend much for expensive gadgets used in abseiling or scaling great heights. The safest method is for your workers’ feet firmly on the ground, but still able to wash and clean windows even the elevated ones.
